Seeing how happy she was while she ate was what caught Daichi's attention. They were both on their lunch break at a nearby fair. She dropped her employee pass, and he brought it to her. He asked her to come to the hair salon where he was an apprentice. She didn't show, and he eventually went up to her and asked her out. People were talking badly about her because they felt a "fat girl didn't deserve such a hottie." She was very self-conscious, even though he loved her very much, and she felt the same. He wanted to cut her hair, but she wouldn't allow it. Eventually, she let him cut her hair. She wanted to meet her parents and tell them about him, so she wore a kimono and he styled her hair. He wanted to come, but she wouldn't let him. On her way back from seeing her parents, she died in a car crash. Daichi blamed himself because he was the reason she went on the trip. He vowed he would never cut the hair of someone who was special to him. His assistant Kyoko later develops feelings for Daichi. She wants him to cut her hair, but he won't. Daichi later develops feelings for Kyoko, but is afraid because he can't come to terms with Suzu's death. Mei assures him that Suzu would want him to move forward in life.
